Amanah Raya urged to hasten review of Public Trust Corporation Act

KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah Raya Bhd (ARB) has been urged to set up a special committee to discuss the review of the Public Trust Corporation Act 1995.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, said if ARB could form the unit and produce its findings in a speedy manner, she could bring the amendments to Parliament in its next session in March, following cabinet approval.

Azalina said the committee should be led by ARB with stakeholders from the private and public sectors.

She said that special committee could discuss the establishment of the 1Malaysia one-stop centre for wills, assets and liabilities and the utilisation of MyIdentity under the Home Ministry to trace beneficiaries of estates.

“I hope that the research team involving ARB, initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to study the set up of the 1Malaysia one-stop centre for wills, assets and liabilities can wrap up their report fast and send it to me soon so I can present it in the next cabinet meeting,” she said at a visit to ARB’s headquarters here today.

ARB had previously called for the reform of the 23-year-old Act, which has yet to be amended to improve the delivery of ARB’s services.
